Very pretty, Jane.

We are too hard on ourselves about the points. I think it looks good. I got mine cut out and all the 2 1/2 " squares made. Tomorrow maybe I can sew it all together.

I've only finished 6 of 11 blocks so far, due to slashing my right index finger! (I'm right handed.) The cutting on this block went pretty easy, so I hope to get more blocks made today. This is #6, Flying X. Its my favorite so far because of the colors. I just love that fabric with the cherries!:)

Love those blocks, ladies. I'm thinking I might need to shop for another deep chocolate brown civil war before doing this week's block. I really don't have the right brown.
BUT, in the meantime I managed to get all of the little postage stamp 16-patches done! I'm so happy to be done with these. I love them but they are a bit tedious to make. If I had waited til the end I may have never gotten them made. I have one tip for those of you who haven't started on these yet (for your borders). They are made with 1 3/4" strips sewn in pairs, and then cross cut 1 3/4" long. Then you sew the twosies into a four patch. Mine all came out to perfect 3" squares. But the pattern tells you to cut them down to 2.5" squares! I guess that will work for someone who can't sew a 4 patch accurately, but I found it really tedious and wasteful, cutting that much off 168 squares. Not fun. So if I was to do this again, I would definitely start with 1.5" wide strips, then cross cut the paired strips in 1.5". They will come out at 2.5" and no trimming. Another idea: On center intersections of each 4 patch and the center of the 16 patch I 'spun' the seams to reduce bulk. It worked great and my intersections are not thick at all. |
Thanks for the tips, sewbizgirl! Your 16-patches are fab!
