I just finished this one. It's kinda weird, but I like it. It was not quite all "scraps", but a personal challenge I gave myself. Every month, our guild has some door prizes, and in September, I won one of these. It was about 1/2 yd of Halloween fabric. It had 16 pictures in various sizes, all pumpkins and black cats, etc. I would never have bought this myself, as I prefer geometric designs for blocks, rather than fussy cut kinds of things. Anyway, I challenged myself to make a quilt from it without purchasing anything new, using only scraps and leftovers that I already had.

I had been wanting to try a spider web design that I saw on the web, and decided that would be a good Halloween-ish thing to incorporate with the picture blocks. So, here's what I ended up with. I'm learning FMQ, so I quilted spider webs over all the main blocks, and a "radio static" pattern in the sashing. (These ideas came from Leah Day's web site).

I did manage to make it all with scraps from my stash, with the exception of thread; I bought some silvery grey thread for the spider web.

I'll be sending this to my 3 grand daughters (ages 5-10). Bad news is ... I only used up 1/2 of the original Halloween fabric!

No, the fabric is just "mottled". But, it does look kinda batty!

This is a great idea. I've been making placemats, table runners and table toppers for a fair (I'm not sure really what it's called. Kind of like a craft yard sale thingy.) I have so much in scraps that I thought I'd make some scrappy ones. It turned out to be more fun then I thought. So I'm in.
P.S. I can't believe there's 50 pages of responses. I'll be here all week reading them. LOL

Mine is getting there. The top is nearly finished - remember it is the Red Delicious quilt from Quilter's World August 2010 issue. Now, I wonder if I should use some fleece for the back or should I use another sheet in the same color scheme that I already have. I also want to use another comforter that is worn out: I want to take it apart and use the batting instead of buying some new one. Did anyone ever did this?

If you use flannel in your quilt, it's a good idea to prewash it. Flannel shrinks a lot more than regular cotton. As for fleece, it may shrink, but not as much as flannel.

I would think that the batting might not be so easy to work with if recycled, but if it does work, please let us know.
