Default Cookie Frosting needed

Does anyone have a good cookie frosting recipe they would share? I would like it for Christmas cookies, to spread as well as tube on. My usual frosting is blah and I need something good! Thanks, and happy baking!!

I use a basic cream cheese frosting for my sugar cookies

4 T Butter
1 Cream cheese block 8 oz
2 T Milk
3 1/2 Cups Powdered Sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla

Put all ingredients in bowl and beat until smooth consistency. If the frosting is not thick enough just add more powdered sugar and if too thick then add a little more milk. Simply delicious on sugar cookies.

My DIL uses the candy melts (melted for piping bag) to pipe on sugar cookies.

Or Royal icing like on this Rice Krispies snowflake. Isn't it cute?

My friend makes the best frosting but she will not share her recipe. We have been friends for over 30 years, but she will not share any of her cookie recipes because they are old family recipes. (When my daughter started teaching my friend and her husband made cut out sugar cookies and frosting, took them to her class so the kids could frost their own cookies. She thought it was sad so many kids didn't get the experience. And the kids loved it.)

I have bought the frosting the bakery in our grocery store sells after my attempts never quite turned out the way I liked.

I was just discussing this with someone the other day...her relative had a great recipe she would not share. Then she passed..no more recipe. Silly to not share in my opinion.

I saw the recipe for Royal Icing in a cookbook so I was planning to make it, then I decided $5.00 was too much for powdered meringue when I only need 1 or 2 tablespoons a year. I doubt there is a substitute, so I'll just mix powdered sugar, butter, milk and food color like I've done for 50 yrs.

As to not sharing recipes---there is the story of a woman who was frequently asked for her potato salad recipe. No, over her dead body. So, when she died, the family put the recipe on her tombstone!

In my own experience, I had asked for a recipe for a wonderful orange peel bread. No, the woman wouldn't share it because it was a family recipe. Imagine her chagrin when I took the bread to a church gathering--I found the recipe in one of those cookbooks put together by women of an organization/community! If it wasn't her family recipe, it sure tasted similar.

My late mother in law made the worlds best zucchini bread and I use her recipe all the time. I even framed it for the kitchen wall so I would have to search for it each year. Anyone that asks can have a copy....it's a tribute to Marie!
