jodyma, do your red pickles have dissolved red hots in them? I wondered if our recipes are basically the same.

Yup! Lime pickles. And another post is correct. Get a bag or box of Mrs. Wage's pickling lime and the recipe is usually on the back of the package. I make them every year.

I have a recipe similar to the icicle ones, but I call them Fire & Ice. They have the vinegar and sugar; also Tabasco and red pepper flakes~~
