I remember the candy! I worked at a dime store and got to weigh it. Also worked in housewares and had to make keys.I wish we still had dime stores. You could get anything you needed and they weren't huge. Our drugstore where I live still has the old soda fountain believe it or not. The retired men meet there for breakfast. So nice.

My first job was the "pet and plant girl" at Woolworth's when I was 16! I loved the fabric department, even way back then! I also remember the huge candy display, all behind glass in bulk, to be weighed out to each customer's choice...I miss having customer service really mean something...and of course..main street..when shopping was a family event, to be savored and enjoyed, not rushed.
Donna: Even Walmart has gotten rid of the fabric dept. Its all scrapbooking tole painting etc now.. I had a store for 25 years and we treated everyone like family. Now try and find someone.

i remember murphy's,,it was the best store around this area,,bulk candy, embroidables,,45 record display,,all the good things in life,,,and the sub sandwich was the greatest,to bad there isn't stores like that now,,,the good memories

oh my goodness- I used to take my kids to the Woolworth's lunch counter, we would ride the bus downtown ! LOL and I am 54 yrs old, they loved the shakes there! then we would shop for yarn or school supplies or just a coloring book for the kids .. what a wonderful memory .. thanks !!
