I may have to revisit these. My mom made these a lot when we were kids. She had a very short recipe list, and there are just some things I swore I would never eat again! Some of the variations listed here do sound interesting.

I used to make this years ago, but haven't years. Thanks for the reminder.

Never thought humans ate this recipe. We lived on a farm and didn't know at the time you could buy dog food (we only got to town about every 3 months in the 1950's). Mom made this (minus the tomato soup) for our hunting dogs and added leftover veggies. We had one dog who hated peas. Mom never figured out how he could spit out the peas but eat all the rest and leave only the peas. I'll have to try this and see if my hubby will like it.Looks like the tomato soup makes a gravy.

I add a packet of onion soup mix to the hamburger along with the uncooked rice. Brown the meatballs, drain, place them into a dutch oven(mine has an enamel interior finish). As for the sauce some beef broth, a canned of fire roasted diced tomatoes and can of Contidina tomato sauce. Simmer until rice is done. I served them with mashed potatoes and a veggie.
Sometimes I add cut cabbage to the pot and make Deconstructed cabbage rolls
