Has anyone tried Indian tacos? I've heard of them for years. Anyone have an easy recipe?

I have never heard of Indian tacos. What are they?

Here is the recipe my ancestors have handed down for a few generations. Hope you like it.

1 or 2 lbs. hamburger meat
2 lbs. Pinto beans
1 can peas
2 medium pototoes
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Onions
Cheese (grated)
Thick picante sauce (we like to use On the Border)
3 c. Flour
1 tbsp. salt
1 c. warm water
2 tbsp. baking powder

Brown hamburger meat in a skillet. In a separate pan cook pinto beans. When they are done mix beans and hamburger meat together.

Fry up the potatoes and when they are almost browned, add the peas.

Indian fry bread. Mix flour and salt and baking powder together. Add enough water to form a dough that can be handled easy. Roll out dough about 1/2 inch thick. Cook in deep fat.

Put fry bread on bottom. Put beans and hamburger mixture on top of that followed by the potatos and the peas. Put lettuce, tomatoes and onions on top of that. Put cheese on top of that then cover with picante sauce.

Yummy!!!

Thanks! Other than the peas and potatoes it doesn't sound much different that mexican tacos. :)

at all the pow wows here in Oregon, we put all the ingredients on a piece of light bread that has been flattened and fried in about 3 inches of hot oil til done. the ingredients are the same as for Mexican tacos. Some people put refried beans on the piece of bread before the other ingredients and some use chili.

Oh, it's Navajo fry bread! I know what that is, my dad loves it. We would travel in the southwest and he would stop to get it.

Real indian fry bread shouldn't be handled lots, as it make it
tuff, a good fry bread should be light :-D I love indian tacos
if the bread isn't too tuff. Should eat lots, then maybe I
could gain a few lbs. if it's tuff, you can't cut it up.
