I am new to Quilting Board. This is my first post. I saw your question concerning the Insta-Pot. I purchased one about 1 1/2 years ago. I love mine. I use it just as much as a slow cooker when we are having the whole family over (12). I would recommend you purchasing the see through lid if using as a slow cooker. I also purchased a cookbook to help me get the feel for using it. Everything I have cooked in the Insta-Pot has turned out exceptional, whether slow cooking or pressure cooking. I am not frightened by it at all, as I was by the stove top pressure cooker. I was afraid all the time that that thing was going to blow up! Thus, I used it very little. You can't go wrong with the Insta-Pot. I'm sure there are other brands that work as well, but I only have experience with the IP. Happy cooking!!

I have a 6 qt LUX Instant Pot. I have cooked for 7 people and it was sufficient. Also, I have made yogurt in it without a yogurt function. There are recipes on line for that. Not all that hard. We are eating a lot more varied food and I can control the sodium, etc. vs. eating out. I have several slow cookers but can't seem to get my act together to plan that far ahead. Some of the Instant Pot recipes are more appealing to us. there are a ton out there compliments of Mr. Google. |
I've been using my Instant Pot for about 2 months. I bought it mostly for the yogurt function, so I could pour in a gallon of whole milk and do very little monitoring after I add the starter. I had been making yogurt for several years in a dutch oven. I found out then that I needed to heat the milk to 185 degrees and hold it there for several minutes to get a thick yogurt without adding extra stuff like milk powder or gelatin or straining the whey. With the Instant Pot, I just hit saute after it "boils" in stage 1, stir, and monitor with my digital thermometer for a few minutes before I turn it off to cool.
The other thing I like to make with the Instant Pot is beans. Just throwing in dry beans and some home-made stock, also cooked in the Instant Pot is so easy, and I love the texture of the finished beans. |
I just made a delicious batch of yogurt in my LUX instant pot. It doesn't have a yogurt function but I bring the milk up to temp on the saute function and then let it come back down and add starter and incubate. It is straining now in the frig.

I buy yogurt and not a frequent bean cooker...so that's not on my "need for" list. Just thinking might be another way to cook an all in one type meal rather than crockpot or roaster in oven, or stovetop......still pondering...I watched some infomercials and some of the finished things look just overcooked and not appetizing......no hurry
