Can you trace from a coloring book or even a piece of fabric that has dinosaurs? Then use that for a simple applique. I think that would be cute. You could use different colors to sash each block...

My granddaughter LOVES purple, so for her Sweet 16 birthday, I made her an all purple quilt. This is done as a "string quilt" - She loves it and so did everyone else at her party.

Yes, I do this quite often when I have a pattern that makes a square quilt. I do not care for square quilts that are meant to be used as a throw.

thank you all... I think I will try to find a fabric to make alternate blocks and sew a couple up that way to show him... this has to be done for Christmas so can't get myself into too much more...

I too would starch them well before cutting.... I have found starch can do wonders for controlling bias cuts... looking forward to seeing the quilt when done :-P
