Before you ditch the cabinet, try lifting the machine. I don't think the "football" is quite as heavy as some of the later
Kenmores (40 pounds) but I'll bet it's not a lightweight.

I found it, but for some reason couldn't copy the link. It's a very old leaf tension vibrating shuttle machine, possibly made by National. It's missing a bobbin cover plate, shuttle and bobbin.
