    My son-in-law commented that cotton scraps, sewn with cotton thread, decompose in his compost bin. So yeah, he gets a nice bag of those tiny pieces and threads when I visit.

    The others have had good advice. I only want to add that you should use a new needle, a quilting needle or a topstitch needle. If you do get a poky or two, change your needle again.

    My way of free motion is to tell myself, "mitten, thumb." The movement can be large or small and rarely do I find that I have to cross over my lines. Everyone understands the mantra!
