I love estate sales for this reason too. You can find outstanding items for quilting for little money. Non-quilters just want to get rid of it, they don't know how much it means to us quilters.

I used to know a butcher who wore one of those gloves when he was cutting meat. I can't even think of wearing one when I'm cutting fabric.

I don't think you should undo it. Leave it as a conversation piece! Some professionals make one block different just for that very reason. I love the quilt, it is gorgeous as it is!!

One easy thimble to wear is to take a pair of leather garden gloves and cut off the finger(s). I use these on my fingers or thumb and then the little dot on the other hand...
