I've been a lefty my whole life and never used lefty scissors. Just cut with the righty ones in my left hand. I'm not sure what the difference is other than the blade location since it's all I know.

I always cut the corners off the tape measure before putting the masking tape on them, plus if I'm using a flimsy tape measure I just use two on each side and tape them together.

I never quilt without it. I have a top loading bobbin too, but most of the stuff I do is small so I don't usually have to change the bobbin. It does help and the painters tape works to keep it down...
