    Keepsake

I have been resisting the urge to chime in on this topic, as I have been frustrated with Keepsake's very slow shipping in the past. However . . . ! Friday evening I ordered fabric from them. Today...

I'm with you. My sewing room is my quiet space where I go to be alone and create. I have no desire to go to a quilting retreat. It sounds like crowded work spaces, noise, no alone time, and not...

I tried setting the seams and found it actually made my block not lie as flat. When you set the seam, you're pressing one side of it 180 degrees from the direction you want it to eventually go in. ...

Thank you, all, for your great suggestions! I love the idea of cutting the blocks diagonally, and the one of adding lime into the mix. I think maybe also white, and make it all into a sort of...

    Really ugly blocks

Years ago, early in my quilting career, I thought I'd make an Amish style quilt. I pieced intense yellow and dark blue pieces into 9-patch blocks. Then I did some of orange with the same blue. ...

I agree with others who suggest cutting up scraps a little at a time. The pieces do add up, and the scrap pile does diminish. Well, ok, maybe the scrap pile doesn't diminish. I'm not sure that's...

    Endless strings!

I'm working on a string quilt, and as I sew I wonder if anyone ever actually uses up all their strings! Or, in the case of crumb quilts, all their crumbs. We know and have all acknowledged that...

I mix Elmer's glue 50/50 with water, then brush it on with a basting brush, smoothing out each layer as I glue it, then spread it out on the floor to dry under the ceiling fan. I flip it over after...

I have been using Elmer's Glue for basting quilts, as I am too old to crawl around on the floor to thread baste as I used to. I buy glue by the gallon and love this method. I also was taught, many...

Yes, I agree that FMQ on a domestic machine works better on smaller quilts. My struggle is with moving around the heft of a larger quilt smoothly. Even if I roll up the edge that goes through the...

Anybody else give up on FMQ?

I've done FMQ on my domestic machine for years and have always been happy with a simple meander. However, it's still hard to maneuver the quilt even for a meander, and I'm just tired of the...

Thimblebug, are you saying you use King Tut for hand quilting? I would love to do that, as I've got some leftover from FMQ, but my sewing machine didn't like it. It would be great to use it for...

I think I gave a wrong impression when I mentioned the instructions on batting saying you can quilt up to 8 inches apart. I'm actually quilting lines 3 inches apart. It does enhance the design, as...

    Spacing quilting

I'm quilting a baby quilt with a walking foot, using diagonal lines. The pattern is Jacob's ladder and I really like the way the quilting emphasizes the diagonal lines in the pattern. I would like...
