I haven't tried basting spray and pins just get in the way. I've been using tailor tacks. It's faster than basting and it doesn't get in the way. Just take a couple of large stiches in one place...

I buy the latex medical gloves at Costco and cut off the fingers to use as finger cots. I can't hand sew without them. I started doing this when I worked at a nursing home.

I use yoga to cure most aches & pains. It is great for keeping healthy. I go to classes at our local YMCA. In my opinion it helps cure about anything or at least make it easier.

I bought a couple of Walmart precuts. When I got home I cut off a piece and wash & dried it and it turned out beautiful. I'm very happy with it. It didn't even need ironing.

I have a Benina 440 and run into that a lot. It usually means the tension dissc has a bit of lint or something caught in it. I run a bit dental floss around between the discs. Ussually works.

I cut the fingers off of those vinyl gloves they use for medical gloves. I put one on my thumb and it grips the needle. You can get them at Costco pretty cheap.
