It looks to me like it began with 2-1/2" strips, and the points might even be HSTs, but the intervals don't seem uniform. Maybe it is just an illusion in the photo. I should be able to graph it out...

I find the coarser cloth works great for making scrub caps, and there is no guilt in letting it go. I would have a time making myself use quilt-shop-quality for a scrub cap.
