Low contrast
Take a look at your fabric choices with no distraction of color. I think Hunter's Star looks best with high contrast.

Contrast
Actually I like the quilt, but it doesn't have much contrast. I've always thought that you had to have a variety of contrast for more interest.

I would stipple all over with white thread (except for the gator). Then I'd come in with green thread and make alligator scales for the gator.
