If the quilt is only 45" wide, it probably isn't very long either, so the direction of the seams on the back wouldn't be an issue. It's only when the vertical seam builds up as the quilt is rolled...

OMG, that is absolutely beautiful! And I can appreciate how much work went into it. I'm not usually a fan of 2-color quilts, but I love this one. I like how the diagonals unify the design.
