I didn’t when I first began appliqué as I didn’t know that it was recommended. Now, everything gets washed in case of shrinkage, and only then are the actual shapes cut out.

The easiest one I have made is the Quick Trip quilt by Eleanor Burns. Strips, tubes and not too many matching seams to worry about.
