if the quilt or hanging is for a special person or for a special occasion, I make the label.

If it is just made for no special reason, I have bought the "made by_________"
    labels andused them.

I always label what ever i make; style depends on the item, before or after quilting? usually after but before binding.
there have been a couple that became part of the quilt before quilting...
i've printed labels on the computer...signed right on the back of the quilt...embroidered a block that told the story...and then for little items...totes, table toppers, ect just one of the little sew in made by me labels do the job. i've even quilted the label before (as in the words themselves being part of the quilting design. i quilted a whole story on the top of a quilt once...use your imagination but LABEL YOU WORK!!!

Beautiful labels. I've got to start adding them to my quilts.

I sometimes use a block design from the quilt for my label. and I put a label on table runners too. I write the pattern name date finished made by my name and if a gift the persons name I'm giving it too.

I have a card maker program and I use that to print on treated muslin.

I've started labeling all the quilts that go to family. Then because of a suggestion on this board, I have started adding care instructions to the back also. That remembering to do it thing gets to me also!

I've labeled every quilt so far. I used the Downy label for my Downy quilt, but for the others I started by using Printed Treasures. Now that I've learned machine embroidery, I'm embroidering them. I enjoy making the label as much as I enjoy the quilt.

I have some good tight muslin that I iron to freezer paper. I design what I want in Word Perfect, stick in some clip art, and print it in black through my inkjet printer. I find that color inks are not permanent. I then iron it, rinse it under water, iron it again, and repeat. Then I stitch 2 edges in with the binding, turn the other two edges under and hand stitch down.

I label everything. If the quilt is for a family member, I use a heart template and sew it on the back corner with a quilt or blanket stitch. Then I use a permanent marker and hand write the info, place and date. Sometimes I use one of the fabrics in the quilt if it's lite enough for the writing to show and I love to use varigated thread to sew it on with.
