We always put the combings from our two dogs on the twiggy branches and the robins, blue tits and chaffinches all collect it up. Now I'll fix a bit of batting there as well!

We were in the same spot as you this week. My little robin mama built her nest right next to our window. We had new doors and windows installed last week and mama and dad watched carefully from the lawn for 2 days. They were all OK. I did ask the installers to be respectful of the little family though. They gave the birds some breaks during the day to feed the babies. Everybody is fine now and the little ones are spreading their wings getting ready to fly. It brings joy to my heart to watch this family and how hard mom and dad work to care for their 4 little babies.

I didn't leave out the batting and fabric scraps on purpose but it might have blown out when they picked up the trash. Last year a cut up thread pieces and set them in the garden for the birds. I will add some batting to that next year though.

How cute. I put out lots of my threads cut off of my fabrics after washing. Didn't think about batting though. Will start saving that for next spring.

I used to throw out my threads, but I never saw any in the nest.

Awesome! I love it. Do you put pieces out for the birds to take? The nests around here have horse hair in them. I want to leave what I curry out on the bushes, but hubby thinks it looks terrible.

How sweet! I like to save my dryer lint and just toss it out in the yard. The wind will blow it somewhere that either the birds or the ground squirrels will take it and use it for nests. We live in the country, so there's no neighbors close enough to care! Thanks for sharing what my birds nests probably look like around here!

Real trouble is that we are having new doors put on the deck in the next two weeks (or so) Just 5 feet from her nest!!!!
How long does it take from nest to babies flying away! We may need to post pone the new door installation.
HELP.
We had a robin build under our deck. Yes, you may have to put off installing the door for a few weeks. The robins we had used dog hair to line their nests. We had several little dogs at the time and I'd brush out their coats outside.
