Sometimes I find it awkward to cut narrow strips from the whole piece that I've got. I find it easier to cut a piece off and then work with that.
Ex. If I need 2 1/2" strips, I'll cut a 5" strip first, then cut that one again into 2- 2 1/2" strips.
If I need 3" strips, I'll cut a 6" strip first, then recut it into 2- 3" strips.

Cindy Roth says to spray a little basting spray on the ruler.

I'm using a 4 1/2" Omnigrid square. I ended up putting little sandpaper strips on with double sided tape. That seems to be working for now.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!!

They give a lot of control.
The small sandpaper circles (about 1/4 inch across) help minimize slipping a lot.
I use the small sandpaper circles too and it does work well.

Are you using a small enough ruler for this size square? It would be easier than using to large a ruler to make this cut.

Since I have alot of scrapbooking supplies, I use a adhesive dot runner. Once the 'dots' lose their stickiness, I just peal them off and run another strip down the ruler.

I do the Invisigrip and sandpaper dots too. The handles don't help with my arthritis. I'm told you can get those handles cheaply in the drug stores.
