I did a dumb, dumb thing!

If it makes you feel any better I am currently healing from the exact same wound. It happened so fast, I don't even know how I did it. Not only did it go deep into my fingernail...the needle broke and angled the end that was embedded in my fingernail. I was home by myself and it was stuck in there so bad I had to get a pair of needlenose pliers to remove it. That was painful, and made me nauseous. It was stubborn and quite difficult to remove. I have been sewing for a long time and have never done such a thing. I felt like an idiot.

I've stabbed myself more times than I can count.. but my worst injury was while putting together a bookcase.. I slammed the hammer down on my middle fingernail.. didn't think much of it till the next day and a friend insisted I go to Urgent Care and have it checked.. I had broken the tip of the bone into 3 pieces!! The nail didn't even turn purple.

I have been sewing for about 50 years and just put the needle through the side of my index finger. Shallow hole and very little blood. Does that count? My favorite trick is sewing my fingers to the project when hand sewing. I have avoided the rotary cutter by using dull blades. lol

Years ago, my mother had to take our next door neighbor to the ER with a needle through her finger.
I recently saw an accessory on the Husqvarna Viking site - for the 1+ - that protects from this. Maybe others machines offer something like this as well.
