I am reminded of my son's bride-to be requested a crocheted bedspread for their wedding. I was happy to comply, and when it was finished a few weeks before the wedding, she very sweetly asked if she could have it early. She wanted to show it to her college friends, who were giving a tea for her. In the end, she showed it at every party she had (7) and was very happy for the gift. needless to say, my son was also very happy with the situation. This was in 1974. they still have the bedspread, in good condition. It is definitely used.

Aw this lovely story reminds me of my eldest DGD who aged 4 asked me for a big girl quilt. I asked her what colours she wanted and very definitely came back with pink and purple. A couple of weeks later I went to Malvern Quilt show and bought the fabric for the pinkandpurple quilt as it was now known. Then my daughter rang to say there had been a further request could there be fairies on her quilt as well! So I found some pink fairy fabric and made a Log cabin with the fairies in the middle - the pinkandpurpleandfairy quilt was put together. At the end of June my SIL came back from deployment and DD was telling him the story of DGD's quilt "...and that why it's called the pinkandpurpleandfairy quilt" and from the floor came "and rhinocerous I said" !!???!! where did that come from? We can only think that on that previous visit I'd taken her to see Ice Age. The quilt top was made so she had her rhino on the label. I'm happy to say she still loves her quilt and she's 12. But now she has said that she wants a mature quilt!! What's one o' them?

It is such a proud feeling when someone asks you to make them a quilt. On Thanksgiving, one dgd asked if I could repair the quilt I had made her 12 yrs. ago. The same day a DGGd asked if I would make her one for her queen bed that she had just acquired. Her previous one had been twin size. The repair job was cancelled due to the fact that the quilt was beyond repair. It had definitely been abused. So I'm just making her a new one. Now I have two that I'm working on. But I don't mind. I know they love my work and probably me, or they wouldn't have asked in the 1st place. I know that for sure.

Don't you just love it when they request one and they are so specific about what they want! I love it when my granddaughter (who is 3) tells me what kind of quilt I "need to make her". That's why she already has 5 or 6!

By this time next year, I will have six grandchildren, 5 boys 1 girl. I've made a quilt for Christmas since the oldest was born. I had decided that the big boys (10 and 12) would just get pillow cases.

Lo and behold, they were overcome with joy with their quilts this year, much more than any time before.

I guess they'll get quilts next year, too! I better get started!

P.S. I LOVE this board!

Several months ago, my youngest dd heard her fiance's little 4yo dd tell her grandmother that her 'new gramma' was going to make her a blanket .. the new gramma was me. So I made her a quilt in the same pattern as her new big sister and new cousin and put 'welcome to our family' on the label.

I heard last week that she takes it with her everywhere. Made me feel good. I'll be making her more, that's for sure!

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

My youngest DD (soon to be 28) seems to think that also. She doesn't sew, but brings all kinds of clothes to me to alter, adjust, she'll say "It needs taken in here and shortened here...you can do that right?" ;-) Sometimes it is a stretch for my skills, but so far I have managed to do all she asked...and she is always to tickled and appreciative with her "new" outfit.
