I think you have a wonderful treasure chest of memories and history. All the quilts are just wonderful. You are so lucky to have all that love in your home...

Every time I see something made out of silk ties I am reminded of what an old neighbor made for my little brother when he was about 9, from my dad's old ties. It was a "smoking jacket" type jacket and he wore it until it was too small and the elbows had holes. He loved it and it was beautiful. My husband only has 2 or 3 ties. Maybe someday I'll get ties from a thrift store and try it myself.

I am pretty sure these are all silk ...... this was her first tie quilt... if you look closely she used ties to bind the quilt too ..... and the backing is cotton and only attached around the edges ..... works good .... she pieced the ties onto an old sheet ...... she did them all that way... it kept things stable as she embroideried ... hope that answers lots of questions ....
Can you take another picture of the tie quilt, close up and backing too? Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words or descriptions!! Thanks!!

You are so very fortunate to have such a wealth of family history!
