My sewing room is right off the kitchen so I don't have to go far to get something to drink. Besides I need to get up and move around some or I get stiff.

The room I have as a sewing studio upstairs, used to be a room that had our hot tub, but we moved that downstairs. Really big room with ceramic tile floor, big windows overlooking a 66,000 acre lake. Has a built in fireplace, enormous closets, its own sink & faucets and an under-the-counter refrigerator, just for water and apples. No food up here....if I want something to eat I have to go downstairs and get it. I need to "move & walk around" once in a while instead of just sitting & sewing/quilting.

Don't have either, we have a one story home and it's not far to the kitchen ....
but I'd sure have a mini fridge if I was upstairs or in a basement :)

I would not. It gives you an excuse to exercise the muscles that you have been using. Gets the brain cleared.

I'm right next to the kitchen, but if I were far from it, I'd have a fridge first, microwave only if enough space. For me, hot drinks seem to stay hot enough in an insulated container, but a warm diet Coke is no fun. I try to only have water near sewing projects, but sometimes I need the vitamin DC. A microwave might be a beacon to others to make popcorn, which smells and is greasy. But in a large, fab, dream studio, maybe. But then it would also have a sink, maybe instant hot water for tea.

Got me one in my bldg. Hide my diet Dr Peppers from Dh. He drinks them like there is no tomorrow. I have my cd player on top of mine. Made use of that space. Didn't take up much room either. You can get a real small one at Walmart for about $75.00 give or take. Just have to go in the house to pp.

I need the walk to the kitchen every once in a while just to stretch these old joints.

Going up and down the stairs to reach the fridge or microwave is my "get up and move" break. When we built this house I thought great now my laundry room will be on the first floor where we are most evenings (I was still working at the time). Now I have to set the timer so I'll know when the washer or dryer goes off. But again it's one of those breaks that I need to take.

I've learned that if I need something to drink, I need to get up and step away from the table for a few minutes. If I'm thirsty, that means I've been at it long enough to take a break, and move enough to "re-set" my back and hips.

Also, if there's no food or drink near my projects, nothing untoward can happen.
