Another reallly, realllllly easy quilt is Sassy Sixteen. You make it with 16 fat quarters of fabric, and all the pattern pieces are the same. It give a patchwork look without the little bitty pieces. It's a great one to practice a straight stitch on, and just getting used to sewing.

Here is a picture of my first block:

Hi, welcome from East Texas. Sewing now will be so much easier. When I first started college, accounting was kicking my behind but now many years later I get It. Start with basic things like squares and straight lines. Be sure you use a good quilting ruler & measure, measure, measure. It makes all the difference in the world. Don't be scared of a rotor cutter they are scary at first but you will get the hang of them. Good luck. Oh & like my mama always says, read the dang instructions.

I'm also a newbie and hated garment sewing but I love quilting. I found the easiest way to begin was to buy a jelly roll and start sewing. It gives you great practice on sewing the 1/4 inch seam, still working on that one, and the cutting isn't that complicated. You can finish a quilt quickly with this method.

Welcome to the group.
