When I received my studio cutter that was the first die 2.5 strips. One day after thanksgiving I went to walmart and they had these handle totes with orange/green tops clear bottoms for 1.00 each (they sell at joanns 6.00 each) took 20 of them.They stack and store well all my jellies/honeybuns etc. go into them. I love strip patterns and www.cozyquiltdesign is a great strip pattern shop.

I cut all of my jellyrolls on My Altos Quilt cut. Much, much cheaper to cut them. Then I can recoup the money the cutter cost me. lol

Just a plug, Look up BONNIE K.HUNTER. quilter ; on website Tons of ideas for scrap quilts, managing scrap fabrics, how to store , cut and use your leftover fabric, patterns for free, ect..... you will not be disappointed for taking your time and checking out her site. She is an author of a few quilting books. Writes articles for a very nice quilting magazine. I have checked out two of her books from our
libraries inter library loan system. Wonderful books. Check her out.
Once you have your 'own' jelly rolls cut, she will provide ideas in how to use them up in a frugal way of sewing. They probably won't be sitting in the pretty baskets.They will be crying out to be your next quilt....

I've only bought one jelly roll, but have yet to start using it. I like to cut my own.

Moda - if I buy precuts. I've been cutting my own from my stash too, lately batiks. Several in my group recently bought the Hoffman Bali Pops and they were all cut badly ...

I cannot afford to buy the "jelly roles" so I do cut my own. AND after cleaning out my sewing rm. I will think seriously about buying more fabric. KK

How many strips are in a jelly roll and what can you make from them?
As well as, how many blocks are in a charm pack?

Even though I like some of the books for precuts, other than an occasional charm pack, I usually cut my own. I did buy a Turnover pk. on sale recently & am playing with it now, cutting each triangle in half, by the way. Doing some star blocks, with all triangles, adding some tone on tone cream for background, & they are turning out pretty!... Not worth, in my mind, or pocketbook, to pay full price for most of these precut packs though!...
