I have my hair cut pretty short, then let it grow for about 4 months and cut it again. The place I go to charges 25.00 including tip. I would go more often if I found a place that did a decent job of my hair, it's got a million cowlicks and very hard to give a good cut to.

I cut ds and dh's hair and only get mine done a couple times a year. I pay $20 for just a cut (not incl tip) and I cut it myself in between.

And worth every penny to get a great haircut! :)
Same here.

There is only one person that can cut my hair right. I follow her from salon to salon. I get a wash and cut for $20 + tip.

Me too and she does a great job. She even came to my house when I was laid-up after surgery, and charged nothing extra.
Read about her in the local paper several months after I moved up from NYC. Article said she'd studied sculpture, so I figured she knew about shape.
Saved me driving to NYC every 5 or 6 weeks - gas alot cheaper then, but still.

That has been my problem too. I went to my daughters salon because she had bragged so on her stylist. First haircut great, second so-so, third awful. I just can't get a good haircut and I think my cut is really simple. I have decided I don't know how to describe the cut I want. Well, maybe not, it also seems like I get the cut the stylist wants me to have not even close to what I tell them.

When I lived in NY I went to some very expensive stylists who had worked for John Freeda, Vidal Sassoon and other famous trendsetters. When I moved down here it took me a long time to find anyone whom I really liked. I finally found a great haircutter who had been a trainer for L'Oreal Professionnel. He's in a very upscale salon now about a mile or so from where I live and I pay $65.00 plus tip for a really great haircut. Once I lost my job about a year and a half ago I could no longer afford or justify the expense of this luxury. Last month I went to Great Clips, paid $6.99 with a coupon, found a pretty good stylist who intuitively knew what would work best with my hair which is very fine and straight, tipped her $5.00 and walked out of there very happy. They didn't offer me a glass of wine or sparkling water or fuss over me as they did in the fancier salon but I would recommend this particular stylist anytime and told her so!

Haircuts at a salon average $45. That includes washing and blow drying. Supercuts (chain salon) probably charge less.
