I'm anothr non-flyer. Was even before the airport nonsense. Kids and grandkids live several states away so it's Amtrak for me. No hassle and, if you have sleeping accomodations, meals are included. Much more comfortable and you're not 'on top of strangers'.

I am very scared of heights. I thought flying would be bad also. I flew from Casper, WY to Salt Lake City to Atlanta and then on to Chattanooga, TN. I liked the little 50 seat jet that we flew on from Atlanta to Chattanooga. BUT when I was in that really big plane from Salt Lake City to Atlanta, I wanted my camera. I was sitting beside the window (close to the wing) and it looked so beautiful down on the ground -- like a big beautiful quilt that God put together. Some fields were square, some rectangle and some had circles in them where they had water running to the crops. And the colors . . . If I flew again, I would have to ask before I got on if it was permissable to take pictues.

I have flown, but I definitely don't like it. I know they say it is safer than driving, but I feel like if I'm on the ground I will at least have a chance. In the air, however, my legs are not long enough to reach the ground.

Hi, I don't have a problem with flying. My one problem is being able to afford the tickets. When you want to get somewhere badly enough you will fly!! Here in UK many airlines offer courses for the fearful to attend before the day!

I just returned from a mission trip to Ireland and England. We met so many wonderful people as I do everytime I go. You are missing out on so many great experiences when you fly. You are safer in the air than on the highway!
Give it a try again!

I flew for years as part of my job, six to eight times a year. It never frightened me but I grew to dread the tedium, the hassle, the simple discomfort. That, of course was before 9-11 and all the security issues that have made the whole situation worse. These days, I have the time; I'd rather take a road trip.

A few years back, flying was fun and relaxing. I loved flying and getting the peanuts and sodas, the meals were just never that great. Movies were cool! However all of a sudden they wanted you to pay for the nuts, sodas and movie if you wanted to be able to hear it. And unfortunately as times change we have to take on added security measures, so now I will not fly, I will drive myself or take a boat if it is overseas. One thing I do truly miss about flying, is I always seemed to be the one who sat next to the poor person who was scared to death. I would chat with them, and take their mind off the take off, turbulence and whatever. One lady I held her hand for four hours, the entire trip, her first time on a plane, I was only 13. She was off to see family one last time and she needed to get there quickly. I know that now she is no longer with us here on earth, but I am sure she is up there in the clouds that she realized where not that scary when you were above them. ;)

I live in OH and my DD, SIL, and 5 GC live in FL. It is 2 long days of travel (with overnight stay on road) there and 2 long days of travel back (with overnight stay on road) with just a stops when it was absolutely necessary to get gas or potty breaks. It takes me at the very least 2 days to recover when I get there and 2 days to recover when I get home (my neck and back just from driving that long). I prefer flying there. My mom was 81 the first time she flew. She had a bad stroke a month after she turned 80, worked very hard on her rehad and it would not have been good for her to be in the car that long without stopping every two hours to let her walk. Her first flight she did shed a few tears on the take off, but it was a lot easier on her physically and she flew again after that. She said that if she had not had the stroke she would never have flown. LOL
