I use to do it when I made my kids clothes when they were babies. I'm new to quilting and have lost most of my feelings in my hands, but I see a lot of apps on here still done that way. thanks for sharing

That's all my Mother ever did and they were gorgeous. All the way from twin to king size, all done by hand. As for fewer people doing them, they take sooooo much time

I enjoy needle turn applique better than doll making. Results are so wonderful!!

I like doing needle turn applique but at the moment I am doing one by machine. It is quicker since I am doing 16 blocks and I want to finish it quickly. I had to stop to finish the challenge quilt for next week then I will get back to it. Hand applique is more relaxing and I do enjoy doing it. I know there are many other who love it so I don't think it is dying out just yet.

Do here however ,do a moderate amount of applique not every project love to mix it up

I like to do needle turn applique for the same reasons romanojg mentioned. Have never done it for anythig big, just wall hangings and wouldn't use that technique for a quilt that will get a lot of hard use.
Before I took a class at quilt camp on hand or needle turn, I didn't do it 'cause my work looked awful. Ami Simms has a way of doing applique that might be just the thing for those who don't like needle turn.

I'm doing my first one, a wall hanging. It was really awkward at first but the longer I do it the better. A couple of hours into it I usually rip out the ones I started with and do them over. It takes me forever but it's relaxing and I enjoy it.
