I unplug "everything" when not in use. Better to be safe than sorry & I know no electricity is being wasted.

I use surge protectors, not just to protect my machines, but also because we live in a house thats about 70 years old. Some rooms only have 2 outlets!! I can't stand it sometimes. I get the surge protectors that have multiple holes to plug cords into. I do unplug things that are not in use though.

I have learned from experience !! I had one machine that got hit by lightning two times - the repair man couldn't believe it. Had it repaired both times. Lived in different towns each time it got hit !!!! So now I unplug my new machine each time I am not using it !!!

Both my electronic machines stay plugged in all the time to an uniteruptable power supply (UPS), designed for computer equipment. The purely mechanical ones plug straight into the wall and stay there all the time.

I unplug my machine when finished, Spent too much money invested to let something happen to it and when it is plugged in it is on a serge protector as is all my other electronic things.

I always unplug mine. I even have gotten up after have gone to bed to check.....just to make sure. We have some really bad lightening strikes in this area.

I'm a notorious un-plugger. I unplug everything when it's not in use.
