I love the dimensional look! Looks like it's rolling like sea waves - beautiful! I have never done a bargello. Will give it a try someday!

:) That was cute. I don't live in a candy store so my selections are sometimes controlled by what I have. I did shop lots of the fabrics in the Blue Bargello but some of them I already had here.
Hints? Know where the fabric will fall in the diagram of the quilt. Each fabric needs to play well with the one on either side of it. As an example, fabric #1 doesn't have to blend 'into' fabric #3 unless it touches it in the diagram. Sometimes you just gotta study the pattern, know where a fabric will fall in the quilt and go with your gut feeling. I believe making the beginner bargello blocks are helpful, helps get an idea of how the fabrics fall in a diagram.
If you ever do one you will be addicted.

I'm glad someone pointed out all those peaceful hummers - amazing picture. I've never seen them that nice to each other - how do you get them to do that?
Thank you. The 1" squares and seaming in the middle of the adjoining square is what gives the quilt the depth and movement. I think it is.

For the hummingbird questions, you might enjoy my 2010 season hummingbird post. If you start looking last page first and then backwards you will see the best photos. We fed 144 lbs of granulated sugar last season during migration.

We don't start getting them in droves until the end of July then I pop into action. When I start my 2011 hummingbird post I will add it to my signature under my avatar so you can follow it.
