I realized I posted in the wrong place. Sorry. Racoons in the corn would be an interesting block....

Nah, I was just being silly, not nagging about where it was posted. ;) It sounded plausible as a quilt block - Some of the names are descriptive but other ones, you wonder how in the world they ended up with that name - you can't see any connection. :)

So far, I'm lucky that I've only had to contend with squirrels and roof rats and birds in my garden. My Concord grapes are ripening, though, so that may bring out any raccoons or possums in the area. :?

Get a rat terrier the big kind. Ours has killed them twice her size.....but other than that here are a few other suggestions. Or use all of them...
Radio in the corn patch
Electric fence around corn patch
chicken wire around corn patch
Walk around the corn patch after the dew has settled
Did I mention get a rat terrier the decker kind..(big ones)
lol Good luck those rascals seem to know when that corn it best.

Electric fence....this year we did it right!! Plug it in every evening and nothing goes in to munch except a couple of little rabbits that can sneak under the wire. They don't eat a whole lot.

My sister said leaving a radio on works for them. They have an old fashioned battery radio, seems the heavy metal station is the most effective .

Racoons got all of our corn this year. We have 3 dogs that kept going out there and barking but they kept coming back so no corn this year.

Still more blocks I'd like to see.

Shake red chili pepper powder on the outside two rows or more on th silk of each ear of corn.It will stop the racoons and almost stop you; but it works!!

Not chili powder, but the red pepper powder. It gets on their "hands", up their nose, and in their mouths, and off they go to water to wash up.

Of course, it does not stop the two legged varmit from stealing. Years ago on a Sunday Morning, we saw a late modelled car pull over to the shoulder on the on coming lane, everyone jumped out in their Sunday best clothes and ran into the field corn by the Iowa highway. After we passed it, they emerged fromthe field with their arms full of corn, dumped it into the trunk and piled in and left the scene.

Good luck. Racoons will raid and ruin a whole field in one visit.
