I would definitely go for either wood or laminate, personal opinion.

I have engineered wood. All my furniture is on castors so I can rearrange to suit my needs or include a sewing buddy. Sweeps up easily because I tend to drop threads on the floor instead of in the garbage can. It is also easy to spot pins.

My threads and scraps seem to vac up fine on the carpet but it's a very low pile while still being of the 'plush' variety vs. berber or something else really low pile.
Ditto- area rug is nice and comfy to stand on, vacs up well, and if I drop a piece of fabric on it it the fabric doesn't suck up every little nit of dirt - the nits stay on the rug. I am rigorous about running a magnet over it for pins and I vac every week. I use one of those damp-mop things to pick up the wood floor. I don't let people in with their street shoes if I can help it. No pets! Maybe that's why my son calls it the 'quilting lab'?
Ditto! There's no hiding dirt and dust bunnies on my wood floor, so I vacuum every day.

Wooooooooooooood, of course! (if you can afford it). I pinched pennies and put down linoleum that looks like wood. So easy to tidy up, and you don't lose stuff in the carpet.

I was lucky enough to have a house that had all of the old wood floors covered by (yucky) carpet when we bought it. The carpeting came out the same day we closed! I much prefer the wood floors in my sewing room :-)

Wood or laminate is so much easier to clean up.

We did this also, and I spray baste on the floor so it is much easier to get the backing nice and taunt using wide masking tape.

I do not like carpet in my sewing room or sewing area for a number of reasons. Some that come to mind are the pins and threads that get lost in carpet until you either step on them or the threads wind themselves around the wheels of your rolling chair or vacuum. Ask me how I know this.....lol. I now have wood but, if I had it to do over again, I would opt for tile or linoleum.

I have laminate and love it. Two pieces of cheap carpet under my chairs as they go flying across the room on the laminate. But they sure collect the threads and fabric pieces since Im a messy sewer.
Cant imagine having carpet it would be a disaster.

I have nasty 70's shag carpet in my sewing room and as soon as I can afford to get laminate, it's coming out! I hate it, hate it, hate it! If I drop a pin, I can't find it until I step on it, I have to drag out the vacuum to clean up....way to difficult as opposed to cleaning up wood or tile floors (get out the swiffer and in 3 minutes the floor is clean). I will never buy carpet for anywhere in my house.....ever!
