LOve the music quilt as that definitely gives me ideas for another quilt. My partner loves music so may now have to start looking for more music fabric as already have some keyboard and vlack and white fabrics.

Yes, flying geese, log cabin. It's mostly avoiding using floral fabric. Plaids are always good too.

My son wants the Maroon and Black colors because he says its not girlie.

It's the colors that will make it break it when it comes to a man's quilt. To make it simple, I'd stay away from half-square triangles and keep to squares and rectangles.

I have been quilting since a yr ago last June. I recently made a "Jewel Box" quilt in earthtones for my DH and no one's going to get it away from him! LOL!! Have you considered making a quilt with old men's ties....I have seen a great bow-tie pattern quilt made entirely from ties....just a suggestion.....
