Others have given you great ideas so I'll just say "Welcome from Tennessee." I love New South Wales! So wish I could go visit there again. Best wishes with your quilting. I know you'll enhoy quilting!

Hi from East Tennessee, USA. If you can find the book Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Quilting, you can teach yourself. I use it as a manual when I teach. And, read everything you can about quilting on this board. You have many quilt guilds or clubs in Australia, also. Try to locate one near you. Good luck.

Welcome from New Zealand. I like the ideas of using the local library for books and finding a local quilting store where you can do a class for beginners or whatever interests you. I never did a sampler quilt myself which is a common beginner quilt but it is a good way to start. I did an 'EYE SPY" quilt for my son from squares. A class will teach you many things at once and you will be off and running along with connecting with some other new quilters. Good luck and keep us posted.
