I did one many years ago when I first started applique and now as I look at it I see that it was not perfect and think that since it is an UFO should I finish it as is, or redo it again with the better stitches. I will be still thinking about that next year or when I get up the energy to take it out of the drawer and have another look at the work.

I did needle turn years ago then life got in the way. I did it on my own with out instruction. So I decided earlier this year to take a class. It worked out great becuase my daughter wanted to learn, too. So we found a LQS that has a teacher that is doing a BOM at no cost! She devotes two days out of the month to work with us. We meet on Tuesday morning for the actual instruction and start of a new block. We meet for three hours. Then she comes in two weeks later for the same amount of time to work with us if we are having difficulties. Love it. She is so good. It is taking me time to get to where you cannot see my stitches. Each block is getting better, though. I love it. It is something I can in front of the tv or elsewhere. Try it. You will like it.

I needle-turn hand applique. Started about 4 years ago and love it. I can do it anywhere, especially in front of tv or vacation, etc. I am NOT perfect, but then neither is nature. I love doing flowers, birds, and traditional patterns. I don't have to worry about matching seams and a perfect 1/4" seam. I have also made many pieced quilts, but all are hand quilted too. Hand work is very relaxing to me.

I agree. I have been doing applique for a long time and I still hand quilt my quilts. It does relax me and I do feel a great sense of accomplishment when I am done. Guess I still like the "old fashion" way of quilting.

Took a class with Velda Newman last week and she needle-turns her quilts, including her "Zinnia" which is 8 feet high by 18 feet long! Good teacher, learned a lot about art quilts from her.

I love to needle turn applique - it's a lovely way to pass time in the evening while the TV is on - I love to try any new patterns and especially Hawaiian applique.

Patience is a must and once you get it - you're well on your way - good luck on your efforts.

I love needle turn applique too. I am often lonesome in quild meetings as there are so few people who applique. I've tried to get others interested with no luck. So I figured I reach out to the web to see who else I could find that loves needle turn applique.

I don't know if you meant strictly needle turn or any type of turned hand applique. I love hand applique, but I have always used the freezer paper method, I can get the corners much smoother that way. Last October, I was in Hawaii and got to take a Hawaiian applique class, which is a form of needle turn, I am loving it! It is much easier than I had imagined.
