I am so glad I read this thread!!! My Mother recently gave me this exact machine and she lost the manual many years ago. I have emailed Brother...lets hope they will do the same for me. A question for those of you that know about this stuff. How do you put the thing in reverse so that I can "lock" a stitch? Thank you in advance.

KristinaH the book says it is that little button on the top knob on the right in the center of the stitch length knob. You push in on it.

just in case you do not know...the L M R lever is needle position. left, middle, right. quite a find.

When you turn the knob to darn, it's for FREE MOTION sewing.. On some machines when you turn the knob the feed dogs won't move, so watch that, or you may need to lower yours. Hope that helps.

If it doesnt sew normal, you say "darn you" and turn the knob to darn.
