Your body produces melatonin naturally, but decreases with age. So a supplement does help. I have been know to take it at 3am and still wake up at 7 without side affects. My DM liked it and said it was the best nights sleep she had in a while. I do not take it on a regular basis however, but on occasion when needed.

my DH has trouble sleeping. he tried it years ago and it din't work.
with the natural ingredients, it has to build up i your system...you don't get results at first, we found. we saw an ad and ordered a 2 wks trial of something with 5 ingredients, 1 being the melatonin, and it was beginning to work, but more expensive than he wanted. so i went to walgreens and took what he had ordered and found this with mostly the same ingredients....its called Alteril (a natural sleep aid). he' begining to sleep better now.

I take one tablet of melatonin each night, and it helps. My doctor raised my antidepressant from 50 mg to 100 mg, when I described not being able to relax and not have everything going through my mind. I also use some mental imaging, as picturing a flowing brook with soothing sounds, and I use a lavendar gel on my hands before I go to bed. However, I have a problem with using my quiet time after my hubby goes to bed to cruise through topics on the computer and sometimes become too "revved up" to go to sleep right away. I am a chronic night-owl!

Be careful with it. My husband got nosebleeds from it.
If you are going for mouth surgery or any other kind of surgery, you MUST tell your doctor you are taking it and stop at least a month before the surgery. Be careful with non regulated meds and BE SURE TO INFORM YOUR DOCTOR.

Hi Tutty,
Yes I've tried Melatonin and think it really helps me and have never had any side affects. I've used it off and on for years. I don't find it to be addictive either. I take it when I need it. If I have 3 or 4 nights where I can't sleep I don't wait for the 5th night, I just take a melatonin and thankfully I get a full nights sleep. You can always sheck with your Dr. if you are leary about taking it.
Good luck and sweet dreams

It never, ever worked for me - I've had insomnia for years. I take 1/2 of a motion sickness pill and that gives me a good night of sleep.

I use it every night, but it doesn't help me to
much because I suffer from chronic pain in my
neck, not to mention the muscle spasms in the
neck and shoulders.

I am trying to stop using the meds the Dr. gives
me for the pain and spasms, but at this point not
sure if I will be able to continue with the no meds
routine. It has been over 2 months and each night
I hurt more and more.

I love it. I work 11-7 and have a hard time getting sleep before work but when I take that I sleep well for a few hrs. I've noticed it takes about 1/2 hr to work and it helps if you are resting during that time. I also have to make sure I've got at least 3 hrs to sleep. It's also great if you wake up during the night and can't get back to sleep. It also doesn't make you groggy when you wake up. It works well for me. I use the "Midnights". Good luck.

I did about 10 yrs ago, after an auto accident. Couldn't sleep at all. After 10 yrs now, I take a muscle relaxer, does the trick
