Yes, constrictors can climb but none of the poisonous ones in the USA. The most common in our section of the country would be the black rat snake. I have personally observed them climbing and even caught one draped over a tree branch. Folks who go berry picking can tell you it's not uncommon to find one on the berry vines, waiting for a bird.

tips for repelling snakes (of all the county agriculture sites I searched, could not find one which endorsed any repellent and warned that use of repellents could actually harm your own pets or other wildlife).

While living down south the local zoo's information hand-out was that non-venomous snakes had round eyes as opposed to the elliptical eyes of venomous snakes. Not sure that info is entirely correct, but I'm not getting close enough to figure out eye shape.

too funny ladies. I have to confess-I have a friend who watches TV with his Cobra in his lap. now, I have snakes, like them but I have enough sense to not handle a poisonous snake the way Rich does.

They surely do. They climb trees, too, and have been known to fall out unto some hapless soul who just happened to be walking underneath the tree. They can get onto roofs and into attics, too. I am not a snake fan. :(
