My machines range in age from 2 to 7 years and none of them have been taken in for maintainance yet and they all are working perfectly.

In the last 30 years, I have only taken in my serger once, and that was too long ago to remember.

My electronic Janome costs $90 for a cleaning, my new-to-me Bernina with embroidery unit went in for a cleaning and check-up before I even turned it on and that was $95 for both pieces, and my old Elna Super cost $65 for it's very first trip to be cleaned in her life and she was 37 years old at that time! The Janome and Bernina were checked out in Florida and the Elna in Spokane, Washington, so the price differences reflect different locations as well as electronic vs. non-electronic. Your place is ouchie!

I just recently had my Pfaff 2140/2170 Embroidery machine cleaned and serviced and it was only around $80 at Zanesville, OH. Last year I had the same machine done at Dover, Ohio and it cost around $100. Guess it depends on the dealers. They both are Pfaff dealers!

$0 because I clean it myself.
Was told not to oil the Janome 6600, so I don't.
My tech did show me where to oil in case I ever had the need to (his shop is almost 150 miles from me).
If you clean your machine after each project and especially the bobbin area, change the needle for each project or hours used, and your machine is not giving you any trouble, why have it serviced?

That said, get quotes in writting up front. Compare if able to other techs. Sounds pretty high what you paid.

I service my girls myself. If you keep them clean and oiled and change the needles regularly they don't need servicing until something goes wrong.

Basic service (nothing WRONG with machine) $130.00 in Bellingham, WA (they have to send to Seattle-wonder if they charge mileage???) It stays there a week and then comes home. If I take it to Coeur d Alene ID, I pay $79. (had new bobbin winder put in for $30.00) Since we have kids in CDA, guess where I take my machine? I service both of my "older" non electronic Bernina's. Wouldn't have a clue how to do anything with my PFAFF. I's all sealed up!
