I read somewhere that if you spray bug spray in their face, it will blind them temporarily for about 10 minutes, and also burn their eyes. We keep bug spray at both doors, and in our night stand next to our bed, besides the handgun.

If I were you, I'd have a motion detector light, or even a couple of them, placed from the house to the sewing room house. They are inexpensive and very convenient!

Do NOT tell any stranger you have a gun! However, you handled the possession of the gun perfectly when you told the police ahead of time and let them know where you would put it.

Friends of mine who know I have a gun ask me if I would use it! I've told them that there is no reason to have one if you aren't properly trained and prepared to use it. Most gun owners like myself pray they will never be in a position where they have to fire that gun except on the practice range.

We used to have teenagers all over our property. The police said no one wants to go to a house with lights on so we put lights all around our house, no dark spots. The lights go on automatically at dusk. I feel better, not secure, but better. Perhaps you could even put lights out that have motion detectors. They go on only when there is any motion detected. Please be cautious. Be safe. A lesson for all of us.

I have to keep my dog's shots up to date. If they don't know you, they will bite. The worst one is my chiweenie, Timmy. He got my brother and a friend of ours. They didn't get mad, just said Timmy was doing his job, but they now knock on the door before they come in to let us know they are there. LOL
