How about the 10 Minute Block? The fabrics could carry out any theme. For a quick overview, see..

Default Quilt for Boss

I recently saw a log cabin quilt using flannel fabric in brown, earth tones; absolutely beautiful for a man; and how cozy and warm would that be in the cabin in the woods or wherever !

I found a nice block pattern on About.com.quilting. It is called "Rosebud" quilt block pattern. It is FREE! It has a square center block that can be your focus fabric surounded by 4 patch and longer sashing like strips. I think that I am going put it on my bucket list! Check this site for free blocks. http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpa...t_patterns.htm. This block is listed under "quilt blocks of different sizes" or use http://quilting.about.com/od/blockof...bud_kcstar.htm for this block!

Just bought a panel from Keepsake quilting that would work for your theme. It is call Mountain Majesty by Benartex. I plan on framing each square. Take a look and see if you like it. www.keepsakequilting.com

I think a log cabin, since it's going to be outdoorsy and rustic

The print/pattern on your fabric should help determine the pattern you use to make your quilt. If the "pictures" on your fabric are large, you shouldn't cut the fabric into very many pieces, IMO. Someone suggested choosing coordinating colors and using them to frame the pictures on the fabric. I like that idea. If the print is so that you can fussy cut the pictures, that would be good, then add the framing fabrics. Fast, pretty, and impressive, especially to those who don't sew and quilt.
