Hi Carol, Welcome from southeastern IL!

A 9-patch with a border would be a simple pattern to start for a table runner. You can do a search on the board for table runners and you will find many that will whet your appetite. You Tube might be a source for some table runner demonstrations as well a website like the Missouri Star Quilt company. Have fun!
