Hi Lu! Welcome to the Quilting Board from sunny Nevada! I think it's just terrific what you do for the veterans. Once I get through my "request list" for quilts, and I have some extra time, I intend to start quilting for the Veteran's Home here. You'd be surprised -- a lot of my grandkids don't want quilts because they're "old fashioned".

I too have sewed all my life. I'm 58 now and really just getting going on quilts. I was a seamstress all my life, in my spare time, and used to make evening gowns, bridesmaid dresses, Mother of the Bride or Groom dresses, and even a few Bridal gowns. This was back when I had a one-stitch that didn't do button holes, zig-zag, or anything else. You had to do an awful lot by hand. My Darling Hubby Unit just got me a new (well, it's 3 years old but never used) sewing machine and asked if I thought I could be happy with "only" 167 different stitches, plus 7 different button holes. I have to keep reminding myself that my husband is 11 years younger than I am, and has a totally different mind set when it comes to technology. I'd have been happy with straight, zig-zag and a button-hole! I have no idea how I'm ever going to use all of these stitches, although they look interesting, and I'll try!

Don't feel just because you're 77 that you're old. My Great Grandmother, who taught me how to quilt, was 93 and going strong with her quilting when she was accidently killed in a car accident. Boy to I hope I have her genes!

Happy Holidays!
