I have made 100 s of bags and my favorite of the moment is the Margo bag by Lazy Girls. Makes up fast and carries all I want to carry.

You forgot to mention, must not wear out. Another tuffy, I know.

Funny thing about things that are used - they wear out before the things that just stay in the closet!

If it's something you want to buy, and not make - check out the Danny K line of hand bags. Made in America, lots of styles/colors, washable, and tons of pockets. Check them out.

I adapted a bowtucks pattern and made a denim purse. http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...n-t188650.html
I ended up going to a local upholstery store and they put snaps in for me. Two on the main compartment and one on each pocket. I no longer have to worry about things falling out. Now I just have to decide if it is bulky and awkward, especially with the firm bottom.

Like Julie in NM, my ideal purse has to be light weight because I will be hauling a lot of stuff in it and I can't have it too heavy.
-- It needs to be sturdy (I have bought a number of purses in my search for the ideal and the straps don't hold up at all).

--I prefer leather since in our weather I don't like everything damp.
-- I need to be able to hold my kindle in it
-- I need lots of pockets and zippers -- especially the top, but also at least one outside.
-- I don't want a large bag -- can't carry a suitcase around.

Right now I have a nice bag that is almost everything I want -- except the color does not go with anything I wear. I bought it anyway deciding color was not a deal breaker.

I want to make a purse -- I am going to try putting vinyl on the fabric. I have the Margo, Bow Tucks and a couple of other patterns -- it will be a mix of them for sure.
