A quilt, to me, is any blanket that keeps me warm and more importantly, gives me comfort when I'm sad or sick. Something I can wrap around myself to give me a hug because it was made for me by someone I love.

That person is very narrow minded. My family's absolutely favorite quilt (we call it the sick quilt) is an over sized twin that's been handed down that is grandmother's fan and flannel backing. The back has gotten so smooth over time and its so soft. The quilt is very light weight (we live in the South) so I'm not even sure there is batting in it.
We all want it when we're sick just to curl up in. Even found it in my youngest son's room after a bout of flu last year (big policemen even need comfort!)

Only "wanna be quilt police" believe there is a legal definition for a quilt and I so love to annoy the quilt police. I live to annoy the quilt police.

I would respond to this gal and tell her "Oh I did not know that any state in this country now hires out Quilt Police Officers. And I also have not heard of any city, town, state or federal ordinances or laws that specifically states what qualifies as a "real" quilt. Are you making good money with whichever organization you are hired by as a quilt police officer?"

Shows she doesn't know much about what constitutes a quilt.

After reading everyone's responses, and thinking about the "quilts" I donate to charity..... I am sure even though amost of those are knotted, I also feel they gives lots of warmth and comfort. That's what counts, not what some negative person feels compelled to write, right?

I would not get too upset by her comments. I remember when I first starting quilting, one of the ladies in the group said the only quilt she considers a quilt is one that has been hand pieced and then hand quilted. Everyone has their own opinion about what 'things' are. You call it what you want to call it, I'd call it a quilt.
