I had a problem with a sewing machine that I bought at a thrift store. I tookit to a repairman and after looking it over said that it was not repairable. I took it back and had no trouble getting my money back. I would be cautious with any malfunctioning electrical appliance. An electrical fire would concern me. Imho

My first Ott light was also my last; it worked for about 15 minutes. I returned it to Joann's for refund and have bought and been happy with other brands since then.

I have always thought Ott lites were overpriced. I saw a similar floor lamp at BigLots for $30 and have been very happy with it. I returned to the store and bought another floor lamp and the desk lamp. No problems, just replacing a light bulb that went out (after 4 years of use). I saw on the board that Lowes has good prices on Ott lites - looks like a good alternative. Good luck.

Hi there, may I suggest...if the plug is like a power pac -not a regular cord -- the plug when pulled, may have been
"dropped" to the floor -- there is a way to open the power pac -- there is a small 'fuse" in it --- it could be bad. Check
it. It is possible that the "fuse" is dead. So you may just have to replace the fuse.
As a reminder, the power pac plugs should never be dropped to the floor. Gently set them down.
Good luck. fuzzymom

This is a daylight light from WM and we have two, one I bought in store and one we ordered. They are $38.99 much cheaper than the Ott light and work just as well and ours have lasted for years and with all our dogs, being chewed on etc, and taped back up, that is good. Just used last spare bulb so have to find another one, local WM doesn't have them anymore.

The ballast burned out in my 17-year old Ott lite. I bought another one as it could not be repaired. However, you can put the Ott lite bulbs in other lamps.

Thank you, Charsuewilson, for this information. This seems to be the attitude of many producers of goods these days. I think I can do very, very nicely without an Ott Light. There are perfectly good lights available at most office products stores, and priced reasonably, in case it needs to be replaced.
