Default Vintage zig zag machine recommendations

Hello everyone , I love this forum!! I have read for days here and just can't seem to stop!
I am trying to learn about older sewing machines. I like to do applique and I would like to find
a nice older machine to do a satin stitch. So I am asking the experts here to recommend some of
the nicer old vintage machines. I have several small newer machines but after using older machines
I must have a zig zag one. Pics would be great also. Thanks

I do not have pics of my Necchi but I would recommend one in a heartbeat. Does a great zigzag stitch and easy to maintain by yourself. Hope this helps.

How about a model number so I could look it up.

My model is the BU which is a vintage machine. There are several vintage Necchi models.

403A Singer with ZZ cam. However, I also have a Necchi BU. A person needs one of each, right?

I have a dressmaker 700 that does some beautiful ZZ stitches. Got her for $15 at a thrift store and paid $25 to have her worked over and now she sews like a dream. She's a total knock off but I love her. Don't be afraid of the knock-offs or clones if they're in good shape.

I have a Singer 401 and a Singer 403 that I use for zig zag. They are slant needles which makes great viewing when sewing. The cam stacks have to be really clean to make great zig zags. They are all steel geared, no belt. Love them.

The Singer ZZ attachment sprung to mind straight away. I'd just have a 201 with the attachment if I could only have one machine (a cold day in hell). Anyone tried that? I might be missing something obvious, but the 201 is the best machine ever and the ZZ attachment for it is reportedly superb.

You might try also searching the vintage thread about zigzag machines for more recommendations. It has an amazing variety of vintage machines if you're thinking about a vintage age machine.
